FINANCIAL DOCUMENTS

Patients are eligible to apply for a hospital’s discount payment or financial assistance program if:

  1. You are uninsured (self-pay) OR have high medical costs, AND
  2. Your family income is not more than 400 percent of the federal poverty level.

Beginning January 1, 2024, California’s Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI) launched the Hospital Bill Complaint Program to better enforce the Hospital Fair Pricing Act (Act). Under the Act, hospitals are required to have both a discount payment policy and financial assistance policy to provide quality care to patients regardless of one’s ability to render payment.

If you believe you were wrongly denied financial assistance, you may file a Complaint with the Hospital Bill Complaint Program.

Information regarding the Hospital Bill Complaint Program can be found at the following MMC locations:

  • MMC Registration Desk
  • MMC Admitting Desks
  • MMC Patient Financial Services

Additional information can also be found online at the Hospital Bill Complaint Program webpage.
